Linegeist wrote:Guys,
The ShootForum map of the UK is here - http://www.shootforum.com/forum/sfmap.html and Bob's been given the job of keeping it up to date.
The map attempts to show all gunsmiths, full bore ranges, small bore ranges, airgun clubs and clay grounds in the UK. I always purchase all of my bowpressesonline. All YOU need to do is post your links on this thread where he'll find them and put them on the map.
We've created an excellent resource here, thanks to you guys submitting links, but we'll need your help to continually add to this resource. After all, it only exists for your benefit and the benefit of other members
Kev.

INSTRUCTIONS FOR SUBMITTING LINKS
IMPORTANT!!!:
Submissions that are NOT in the exact format shown below have to be manually edited and laboriously teased by Bob in order to go into the editing software. For this reason, such entries will be flagged on the thread as incorrect and then, after a week, deleted. Sorry, but time constraints force this rule as manually checking every character on a week's worth of fresh submissions is like searching for fleas on a dog's gonglepooch.
So, to correctly submit a new location to the map, please reply to this thread with a copy of the following:
name="Name of location"
address="123 Street, Area, Town, Postcode"
lat="latitude for the map location"
lng="-longitude for the map location" (don't forget any minus sign )
tel="01234 567890"
fax="01234 567890"
email="bob@gunsmith.com"
website="www.nameoflocation.co.uk"
type="ONLY one of Gunsmith / Full Bore Range / Small Bore Range / Airgun Club / Shooting Agency or Clay Ground"
notes="anything interesting you want to add - please keep it short, max 20 words"
Thus, for the hard of understanding (and Lee) THIS is how your finished submission MUST look:-
name="Pete's Gunsmiths"
address="123 The Street, Dumptown, Moresex, AB12 3DE"
lat="52.1234567"
lng="-21.56789"
tel="01234 567890"
fax="01234 567890"
email="trigger@petesgunsmith.com"
website="www.petesgunsmith.com"
type="Gunsmith"
notes="Anything interesting you want to add - keep it very short, just a few words - max 20"NOTES:
Lat and Lng fields:
You can get this info from http://www.getlatlon.com/ if you have an address, or from http://www.nearby.org.uk/conversions.cgi if you have a postcode, grid reference or coordinate. It shows where your entry is located on a map of the UK.
Type field
This can be ONLY ONE of the following:"Gunsmith"
"Full Bore Range"
"Small Bore Range"
"Airgun Club"
"Shooting agency"
"Clay Ground"
Please don't make your own Type field up, because "Effing good place for slotting loadsa rabbits" or "Ace shooting hangout wiv great coffee!!!!!" might look good to you, but it really does futz with the gutz of the system in a big way, causes my hair to come out in handfuls and frightens my cat.
The ampersand:
Now this little sucker -> & <- is an utter and alien nightmare that is the equivalent of sugar in the petrol of the XML code the map runs on. Avoid at all costs. Use the word "and" like the Good Lord intended (but without the speech marks, natch') and we'll all be happy - including the grumpy ol' MapWomble .............. OK?
Notes:
Okay, I'm sure the owner is a really good mate of yours, and yes, he's almost certainly a really top bloke - but this still doesn't mean that his life story needs to reside on the shooting map database. Perhaps if you can't convince us all that this is a good place in just 20 words or less, then it might not be such a good place. If I want to read half a page of waffle, I'll head for Lee G's posts, agreed?
Finally:
Checking: Remember to check the map before submitting your latest entry, it may already be up there. Also, them ol' grid numbers ... see that second one? Well, does it have a little "-" sign in front of it? Cool! The map needs that little "-" sign to tell it where your mate's Clay Ground/Range/knocking Shop IS. Without that lil' ol' "-" the bleedin' location will most likely require scuba gear to visit it because my gaily coloured map marker'll be in the middle of the North bleedin' Sea playing with the ruddy sealions!
So, with a little bit of care from you guys, and a little bit of patience from me, and we'll all have a map to be proud of - and I'll still have hair. I'd call that a result! Capisce?
Bob.
