Pattern Plate...

Postby Tommo » Sun Mar 09, 2014 10:23 am

Anyone have experience of doing pattern plates?? I'm off to try out the new Guerini at lunchtime and I thought it best to begin with pattern plates to see where it's shooting. I've never bothered with PP's before so this is a new experience, is there anything I need to look out for??

A 'Proper' pattern plate, i.e. a whitewash job, or bits of paper/card?

I've patterned a few guns with the latter.

Think the technique is to just mount the gun and shoot at a point in the centre as you'd normally shoot.

I found a roll of carpet lining paper (about 4ft wide) was good, as you just put a stick through, supported by either a frame or adjacent trees, and feed out as much as you need.

Cheers mate. Been and gone and done it now. Actually very impressed with the results, top barrel 1/4 choke, bottom barrel cylinder choke (factory settings) and the patterns were consistent and even. Due to time constraints I only shot 25 clays (12 pairs) and hit 22 but I didn't realise that every second clay was a midi..!! I don't think I've ever shot midis before - so forgive me for a little self back-patting.

The gun shoots wonderfully, like it was made to fit me. I'm sitting here, having just finished cleaning it, with a huge stupid grin on my face and I think I might have won some converts at the club. You sure do get a lot of gun for your money. At this rate I can see me signing up for comps. Not so much Digweed as Bigweed

Better than good mate. For me that was spectacular. I don't think I can really explain it but the gun just seemed to where the clays were. I can't say I have a 'style' of shooting as I've never had a lesson - ever..! But if it's instinctive shooting then this damn gun seems to be reading my moves and it takes me to where I want the barrels to be.

Strangely though I was working it out and those I missed were first pulls and, as I said earlier, the second pulls were midis. Previously I would miss more second shots than firsts. Admittedly I didn't shoot a lot today so the percentage is low. But I have impressed myself no end..!!!
