Webley and Scott Bolt Action

Postby Jack Ferguson » Wed Dec 25, 2013 10:09 pm

Hello, saw one of these in a gun shop recently that looked to be in a working but not amazing condition and the only thing that was wrong with it was that the bolt handle had snapped off the bolt and could probably be welded back on. So, once my dad has a look at it to see if it can infact be welded on i was thinking about getting it? Its for sale for £75 but it says or nearest offer on the ticket so hoping to get it for a weee bit less. Basically what i was wondering was has anyone heard anything about these bolt action .410 shotguns made by webley and scott?

Thanks

Jack :)

They're nice, simple little guns.

Chambers are usually only 2 1/2", though.

Last one I had was £50 in good order.

A W&S 410 bolt action was my first shotgun when I was a kid...great little working gun, wish I'd never sold the thing to fund my first 12G now!

Great guns. I love .410's anyway but these are superb little single shot guns. Have owned a couple in the past and plenty around for less than £70. I wouldn't get one with a damaged bolt though as there are plenty around at same price or cheaper that aren't damaged.

Only thing to bear in mind is they only take 2.5" so no good for the 3"magnums.

Have shot plenty of rabbits, pigeons, corvids and even a woodcock with them. For the money you can't really go wrong.

Thanks for the advice and comments everyone! If the shop is open today i am intending on going to get it but ill have to try and get it at a much lower price as it isn't in the best condition and from what you guys have been saying the gun is way over priced. Ill keep you updated

Ok in their day but haven't been made since the early/mid 70's . They have do have problem with extraction due to worn extractors and extractor lift springs . NO spares so repair is costly . Buy if in very good condition or if offered a good guarantee ,other wise avoid . Not a gun for heavy use any more .
Ex Webley employee ,Webley fan [real Webley's] and have put a few hundred of these together .

You'd have to pay more for a 3 shot example but £50 is about right for a single shot. The shop in this case really is taking the piss.

Try to get an estimate from a gunsmith to do the repair and use that as a bargaining tool.
