Lee hand primer question.

Postby mathspete » Thu Apr 11, 2019 9:56 pm

I'm trying to hand prime some 338 LM . I've got the number 25 shell holder but the cases are marginally too wide to fit into the primer. The cases are about .585 and the jaws of the primer tool are about .525. My question is can I just grind off 3 hundredths of an inch on either side of the jaws so that it will accept these cases, there looks to be plenty of spare metal to still enclose and hold the shell holders.

Try it. As long as there's enough case rim engagement then you should be fine. I've only had problem on slightly oversized seat where the case rim strips out of the seat. Just be sure that you grind enough metal all around so that the primer centers on the ram.

And try it with one primer whilst wearing safety specs and ear defenders....

Ground out the necessary metal on the hand primer, the shell cases now fit and hopefully will be good to go . Now waiting for some cases to hold the finished rounds before I start loading any rounds. Will let you know what happens.
