Paralex Recalibration?

Postby Verminhunter71 » Wed Dec 23, 2015 7:22 pm

I absolutely love the Vortex reticles EBR-2B, EBR -2C, XLR. My problem is that I'm using an airgun where most scopes suitably paralex down to 10-15 yards and the Vortex scopes with the aforementioned reticles have a minimum paralex of 50 yards. Does anyone know of or had experience with recalibrating the front lens that corresponds with the paralex in order to shorten the minimum paralex distance? I realise that this is a no no and could void the warranty of a scope, but I have seen this demonstrated on YouTube. So any tips I would be very grateful. Thanks

on a lot of scopes there isa locking band in front of the objective lens loosening this and turning the lense forward iirc shortened the parallax, no idea if it will work on a vortex

Contact the Vortex approved repair centre,

Think Riflecraft are the UK approved stockist so they will be able to help or get it set back to be done.

Do not attempt to do it yourself as the gas will be released and the glass will fog up.

In what way are Vortex scopes different then, as many other makes have this done to them many many airgun users with no problems.

Neil,

The reason I said send the scope to Rifle craft is that scopes are filled with nitrogen gas to prevent fogging.

If you undo the any of the seals the scope will fog up in cold weather and damp may occur inside, this would not be too healthy for your prime scope.

To maintain your optic in good condition let a professional to the job.

If that how you feel fine, but I have owned many scope that have been played with and none fog up.
Done carefully there is no reason that any gas should be lost.

If you unscrew the lens completely then you will lose the dry gas fill yes, but there is no reason for that. Go carefully, the thread pitch is fine and you only need a couple of turns. It is nerve wracking on an expensive scope, I've done a Leupold, and others, no issues, except of course that the range markings on the parallax knob mean even less than they used to! On some scopes if you want really close focus you may lose long range focus.

OK - tell me a bit more, Dogge and Hornet 6.

I have an older Leupold mk4 LRT 6.5-20 which I have mounted on my .22rf CZ455 (I have modified it to mimic my .308 for training purposes). Parallax/focus is difficult at higher mags under 50m or so (possibly a bit further). I would like to be able to use it from 25 yds onwards at all magnification levels.

I am not worried about using the parallax to measure distance.

So can you detail the method of adjusting the front lens for me - basically do I need to screw it in or out, and how much will it be likely to take? (and what tools do you use to do it).

Thanks.

I never have, nor would I attempt to adjust the base parallax setting on a front PA adjustable scope.

Hornet - sorry - I must have misunderstood what you were saying, then. Not sure what you mean by a front PA scope?

Can what I want to do be done by adjusting the front lens, or have I completely misunderstood?

Where is the PA adjustment on your scope located, front or side ?

Neil. :)

Just looked back, your scope does have adjustable PA yes ?
Because at 20x mag you will need it for a clear in focus view of the target at all ranges.

Aha!!

Parallax adjustment on the side, not the front.
