how to calculate muzzle energy in foot pounds (Ft/lbs Energy) ?

The formula is, mass of bullet or pellet(in grains) x muzzle velocity squared (in feet per second) /448000 . If I remember correctly.

I thought you fired at a telephone directory and each set of twenty pages was 1ftlbs!
If the pellet goes all the way through the gun is over the 12ftlb limit.

For air pistols divide everything by two,

The different divisor numbers must be due to different values of 'g' the acceleration due to gravity. The K.E. formula of half m times v squared needs the mass in pounds so the weight in grains needs to be divided by 7000 and the value of 'g', which I took as 32. Whichever formula is used the difference is less than half of one percent, so hardly worth bothering about :thup:
