Nice planes, were they British made for the carriers in WW2.

Well, that's a coincidence. After I retired, I joined the Civil Air Patrol and flew for them for a number of years. Still have my flight suit...

They were very good planes, used by the Royal Navy after WWII.

Not sure. I've never owned or shot .17, but my friends that do speak highly of Hornady ammo. The .17 HMR is the market leader in .17 rimfire.
