Sat Aug 24, 2019 6:22 am

I glommed a Valmet Finnish Lion at an auction a few weeks ago. Still waiting for the rifle to arrive, but here are a few auction pictures...

Thanks, Les

It did not come with a rear sight or the screw to secure the rear sight, but I have a collection of Finnish sights and a friend with contacts in Finland is working on the securing screw.

Pardon me for giving a mistaken impression that the target is one I shot with the Valmet. I still do not have the Valmet in my hot little hands...it is at my FFL sweating out the 10 day "cooling off" period.

That target was one that I shot with a ..22 cal SMLE. I posted it in retort to Pete's reference to getting out and shooting "the quarter". I usually place a quarter (just under an inch) in a picture of a group to give it scale. A few years ago I posted a picture of a group fired with the .22 SMLE and since the rifle is British and this forum is British, I used an old English penny for scale. ;)

English pennies are bigger than US pennies. English pennies merely serve as take down tools for their 455 Webleys otherwise they don't amount to much other than for penny candy in the US. Licorice twizlers make a nice target. I once blew away a penny lollipop with a muzzle loading 1863 Springfield shooting off hand at 25 yards once. There was only a shredded stick after the shot. I followed that with blowing away a orange plastic thumb tack again off hand at 25 yards. What made it all the more sweeter was I did it with multiple witnesses watching. A Brit penny would have been no challenge. Those were the days when I had eyes. Now, I can't count small change without glasses and my wife insists that the are five quarters required to make a one dollars bill and she's tight with money.

You will not reduce enough weight to really make a difference but may change balance of the gun. I would leave it as is, they are not that heavy to begin with
