Alternative aiming for pistol

Postby Keef » Tue Feb 09, 2016 4:24 pm

I have tried three different scopes on both Long Barrel Pistol and Long Barrel Revolver and have difficulty in acquiring the target picture with all on snap type exposures.

I have a holographic type sight and find that much better but more difficult to get a precise point of aim.

Ideally I would get on better with a red dot or holographic type sight that has magnification of say x3.

Is there such a beast suitable for long eye relief on a pistol?

I would opt for a Trijicon RX30 reflex scope if I wanted a large quick acquisition dot scope. It's really not intended for a pistol and has no magnification however it has a 42 mm lens and a large dot. I have such a scope and with the dot and field of view it's very quick. It's big and it's hearty as well as not cheap. It uses a fiber optic where its intensity is dependant on ambient light. It wouldn'T be my first choice for a pistol application but if I wanted something quick it would seriously consider it.

I've looked at such sights and scopes for pistols and I found for a stock pistol a decent set of iron sights is the way to go for quick target acquisition. With the pistol sized scopes and reflex sights currently available on the market there is none that will beat iron sights for speed. The only exception to that is a laser when used at pistol/gun fighting distances in moderate to low light. The laser is king under those conditions.

Lasers are not permitted in gallery rifle competitions (That includes pistols)

Using open sights at 25 yards to hit the X Ring on Timed and Precision 1 or Multi Target isn't going to be suitable for me.
