Just bpught a Marlin 39A

Postby Deallad » Fri Jan 29, 2016 12:12 am

Just taken delivery of my new Marlin 39A, it shoots well with the Williams peep sight on it. Looks like Remington have got their act together and built a superb Marlin standard rifle.

In testing ammo, about the only round it's not quite so good with is the 36gn hp Federal bulk pack, loves the 42gn Winchester subs and the CCI segmented, the cheap Remy subs delivered the goods and was outstanding with most of the RWS brand.

Just have to wait for Zeiss to build the Conquest DL 2-8 x 42 ASV illuminated as having the parallax set to 25m at the factory Lead time about 3 weeks. Have to hand it to Zeiss they take their customers seriously and produce what they want, they are even going to make up the turret markings for the ammo I use so bullet drop compensation will be very simple.

You won't be sorry, my friend.

Marlin 39's are widely considered to be among the finest lever action rimfire rifles made.

Great acquisition.

Post some pictures when you get a chance.

A scope on a lever action? The Duke wouldn't have done it.

Seriously, they are fine rifles, I have a 1967 vintage model. I bought it just to fill a gap in my .22 rimfire collection but I suspect it would be one of the last rifles I'd want to lose.
If you don't have to give up your car because other people commit crimes in their cars, why should I have to give up my firearms because other people commit crimes with their firearms?

Sadly I have an eye condition that makes shooting not so easy with iron sights in artificial light conditions the exception being daylight LED lighting.

I installed the LED's at the club at the target end which helped, but need them over the sights at the shooting position end then it will be good. The Zeiss with an exit eye pupil of 16.5 mm gives fantastic results for use in the field.

Once mounted on the rail it will be removable without loss of zero and switchable with the irons. I fully agree it will not look so cool, but very functional on the farm for nailing those pesky foxes at 20 yards when the try for my chickens.
