Sorry, I just couldn't resist showing my Victor as a comparison......

Note that I have the longer barrel length.

That is a fine looking pistol, Flinty. Is that the 5 1/2" barrel?

I've wanted a HS Victor or Citation for sometime, but have to admit this was a bit of an impulse buy. I was watching an online auction and many of the items were barely drawing an opening bid. I made the opening bid of $350 on this one and no one contested. There was a 25% "buyers premium", so I got it for $437.50.

Yup, the barrel is the 5 1/2 inch length. It a real sweet heart to shoot. I bought used back in the 1970's. I just like the gun from day one and it is a keeper.

I bought one new as my first 22 target pistol , it was excellent up to club level and my then novice shooting level , I eventually traded it in for a Unique des 69 which was pure target pistol and more suited for comp. disciplines.

Thanks, waterford

My Victor arrived at my FFL today and I got a look at it before it went into his safe for the obligatory 10-day "cooling off" period.

It actually looks better in person than it does in the pictures. The grip fits my hand perfectly.

Better pics when I get it out of jail.

Thanks, Flinty.

The Victor was also heavier than I expected.

Yeah, in my experience most target guns are heavy. I had a S&W Walther P22. It was lightweight and I couldn't get that thing to shoot straight. It had a plastic frame. My buddy has a Walther GSP which is a target pistol. I costs lots more than the High Standard however it's a dedicated target pistol. I find the High Standard a nice compromise between a dedicated target pistol and a blasting away gun.

I have to wait the obligatory "10 day cooling off period" before I can pick it up from my FFL. Won't have until the first week of January.

I can only DROS 1 handgun every thirty days, so When the Victor and the 1905 Smith and Wesson arrived together, I had to choose which one to DROS first. I chose the Victor.

Alas, I guess that you will have to use one of the many firearms that you already possess should you wish to go criminal. It makes the politicians feel safer too. 8-) 8-) 8-)

Interestingly, a Federal Court has already ruled that the 10 day waiting period is invalid if the buyer already has a pistol registered in California (obviously for the reason that you cite). The State of California is fighting the ruling tooth and nail.

Would love to see someone go after the "1 handgun every 30 days" rule.

Yeah, there's a 7 day waiting period courtesy of Patrick Kennedy when he was in the Rhode Island state legislature. It applies to all gun buyers except for those few who have a CCW permit issued from the local chief of police. Such permits are scarce as hens teeth. There are about 500 state wide. The state attorney general may issue permits which is the bulk of those issued in the state but they have no relief from the waiting period. Everybody without permits need only to pass a local background and the NIC's check. They all wait the seven days regardless of what they already own. It's a cooling off period but it tends to irritate most everybody. I'll never understand one gun a month. It only take one miscreant with one gun to raise chaos. The bullet or the victim will never know the difference. It makes no sense. I asked at the state house what person sleeps easier or feels safer with such insane useless laws. I can live with background checks and can somewhat understand restricted carry permits but if you already own a gun the waiting period and limits on gun purchases are useless. Even the police are smart enough to realize that.
